Conformation

The official term of a dog show is conformation. While dog shows may look like a beauty pageant, the dogs are individually being judged on how closely they conform to the breedss standards. The dogs that conform best to the standards are awarded Championship Points. A dog can become a "Champion" after they win enough shows, including two "major" shows.

To be eligible to compete, a dog must:
Be individually registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC)
Be six (6) months of age or older
Be a breed offered at a show
Meet all eligibility requirements in the written standard of the breed

Spayed or neutered dogs are not eligible to compete in conformation classes.

The Newfoundland Club of America offers a wealth of information pertaining to Conformation.
